Minister Radulović in Brussels: The Western Balkans belongs to the European Union, we will intensify contacts with the European Commission

The European Commission wants to see the Western Balkans in the European Union, where it belongs, and our obligation is to support the European aspirations of the countries of the region and the negotiation process with the EU - it was assessed today in Brussels at a meeting of Foreign Minister Djordje Radulovic with Fernando Andersen Guimaraes. Adviser in the Cabinet of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

During his visit to Brussels, Minister Radulović also talked today with Simon Mordue, Chief Advisor to the President of the European Council Charles Michel for Foreign Policy, who pointed out the importance of strengthening high-level political dialogue, which will be contributed by tomorrow's Intergovernmental Conference in which the head of Montenegrin diplomacy will also participate.

Minister Radulović welcomed the approach in which the rule of law retains a central role in the process, adding that we are aware that building a modern and economically prosperous society goes hand in hand with democratic development.

During the talks with the EU Special Representative for the Western Balkans and the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, it was pointed out that during the pandemic, the partnership and solidarity of the EU and the countries of the Region was confirmed, especially through the provision of medical assistance. Also, it was emphasized the importance of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans, which is a key tool for economic recovery. At the same time, Lajcak said that the enlargement policy should be updated, with the continuation of the necessary reforms and the resolution of the remaining open issues.

Minister Radulović also talked with the Member of the European Parliament Tonino Picula in Brussels. On that occasion, it was expressed the importance of the European perspective of the Western Balkans, as well as the expectation that the new approach will result in more concrete results and progress in the EU accession process.
