During the visit by Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic to Israel on Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed the interest of Israeli investors in the Montenegrin economy. In a separate meeting, President Shimon Peres said that Montenegro is an excellent example of a multi-ethnic community, which could serve as a model for bigger countries.

PM Peres noted that there are plenty of possibilities for promoting economic cooperation between the two states. He emphasised that Israeli entrepreneurs are very interested in investing in Montenegro, especially in the areas of tourism and infrastructure. PM Peres underlined the importance of Montenegro’s role in the stability of the Balkans, which he said makes it particularly attractive for foreign investment.

PM Djukanovic said that the Israeli investors are mainly interested in tourism and infrastructure, adding that Montenegro already is and will become increasingly more attractive to foreign investors in the coming period.

President Netanyahu said that the respect for differences among ethnic groups in Montenegro proves that everyone can and must live this way. President Peres also voiced hope that Montenegro will soon join the EU.

PM Djukanovic acquainted President Peres with the progress Montenegro has achieved since the restoration of independence in 2006, putting special emphasis on Government’s pledge to secure more jobs, better wages and pensions, legal security, more democratic freedoms, and higher quality of education and health.
This was a first visit by the Prime Minister of Montenegro to Israel.
