US congratulates Montenegro on winning recommendation for EU candidate status

“The U.S. Government congratulates Montenegro on the recommendation by the European Commission that Montenegro receive candidate status. This is a significant accomplishment, achieved only four years after independence. As both the EU and the Government of Montenegro acknowledge, there is much work to be done as a new phase begins in Montenegro's aspiration to join the EU, an aspiration the U.S. strongly supports,” the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica stated Wednesday, October 10, following the release of the European Commission’s Opinion on Montenegro’s EU membership application.
