Ambassador Sarunas Adomavicius, the new Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, has congratulated Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic on the European Commission’s positive Opinion on Montenegro’s EU membership application, describing it as a concrete confirmation of the progress achieved in the country’s European integration.
The cooperation between the Montenegrin Government and the OSCE will be furthered through the implementation of ongoing projects and the launch of new ones, which are aimed at improving people’s lives and advancing the integration efforts, Ambassador Adomavicius said during his meeting with the Prime Minister on Wednesday.
The OSCE is the first international organization that granted full membership to Montenegro after the restoration of independence in 2006. The cooperation between Montenegro and the OSCE has had a positive impact on reforms aimed at building democratic institutions, strengthening the rule of law, election legislation and the media, as well as empowering the Parliament, the two officials stated.
Considering Montenegro’s commitment to meeting the requirements for the opening of the EU accession talks, they noted that cooperation with the OSCE, Council of Europe and other international organizations remains vital for overcoming the hurdles towards the EU and NATO membership.
Prime Minister Djukanovic wished ambassador Adomavicius every success in his mission in Podgorica. Montenegro continues to be a responsible OSCE member state devoted to meeting the commitments arising from the organization’s key documents, PM Djukanovic stressed, adding that the advancement of the rule of law is critical for rapid political and economic development of both Montenegro and the region.
