Montenegro and Hungary Joint Committee for economic cooperation session was held today in Podgorica, discussing various ways to enhance already excellent cooperation between the two countries in particular in the sectors of energy supply, tourism, construction, housing and utilities. By the same token, four working groups have been established: for economic cooperation, for construction and tourism, for utilities development and for energy, gas and oil, Montenegro’s Minister for Spatial Planning and Environment Branimir Gvozdenovic told the press after the Committee’s meeting.
Hungary is interested in providing financial and technical assistance to Montenegro, in the area of energy supply with particular reference to housing projects. Utilities and waste treatment were recognised as another important issue and therefore the working group has been tasked to make an Action plan concerning strategic treatment of waste for the coming period.
The Committee made special reference to traffic, identifying the Port of Bar and the railway infrastructure as two most important issues that need to be improved, Minister Gvozdenovic noted.
The participants expressed satisfaction with Montenegro’s progress achieved in the period between the two sessions and recommendation for candidate status that will be a political and economic incentive for further cooperation between the two countries. Balazs Botosa, Secretary for International Economic Relations in Hungary’s Ministry for National Economy voiced readiness to support Montenegrin integration process, describing Montenegro as one of Hungary’s chief economic partners.
