President Tadic’s visit will enhance bilateral relations and encourage regional cooperation on the path to the EU, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and Serbian President Boris Tadic agreed during their meeting in Podgorica on Friday.
The Western Balkans’ accession to the EU, the two officials pointed out, promotes unity and security in Europe.
President Tadic complimented PM Djukanovic and the people of Montenegro on receiving European Commission’s positive Opinion and expressed confidence that Montenegro would be granted EU candidate status in December. PM Djukanovic voiced hope that Montenegro would meet all requirements for the opening of the EU accession talks.
It was jointly agreed that Montenegro and Serbia have established good cooperation in the areas of trade, investment and tourism, and that there are opportunities for further advancement in transport infrastructure, particularly the inclusion of Corridor No. 11 into the trans-European transportation network, highway construction and the reconstruction and modernisation of the Bar-Beograd railway.
PM Djukanovic and President Tadic also highlighted the significance of signing and implementing the mutual extradition agreement for organised crime and corruption suspects or defendants.
