The EU ambassadors to Montenegro complimented the people of Montenegro on receiving the Commission’s recommendation for EU candidate status during their meeting with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, hosted by Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Ambassador Leopold Maurer. They also welcomed Montenegro’s evident progress in European integration and pledged to continue their support in the future stages of Montenegro’s EU accession.
PM Djukanovic expressed hope that the Commission’s opinion will be confirmed at the European Council session in December and reminded the ambassadors of recently undertaken reforms which resulted in the Commission’s positive Opinion (Avis). In this regard, the Prime Minister described the Avis as realistic and objective, underlining Montenegro’s readiness to meet all the priorities in the designated period, which he believes will be recognized by the Commission and result in a recommendation on the date for the opening of EU accession talks.
The Montenegrin Government, as Prime Minister reiterated, has been continually working on the said priorities in order to meet the Commission requirements and improve the quality of life of the people. With this goal in mind, it is important that the EU continue to encourage the Western Balkans’ commitment to the European integration, through its open door policy, concluded the PM.
