Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union

Common Agricultural Policy was established in the fifties of the twentieth century, as a response to the current shortage in food in European countries after the World War II.

It was introduced by the Rome Agreement in 1957, and its initial objective was related to increase in productivity in agriculture, thus the provision of an adequate living standard for agricultural entities, avoiding fluctuations in prices of agricultural products and ensuring supply to consumers at reasonable prices.

Today, the Common Agricultural Policy is one of the most important policies in the European Union. For almost fifty years, the common agricultural policy is the most expensive one in the EU, sometimes consuming up to 70% of the EU budget, and now up to 50% of total consumption...
