With the objective of protecting financial interests of the European Union against fraud and corruption, the European Commission in 1999, established the OLAF , having in mind the fact that the budget of the European Union, with the annual amounts exceeding EUR 100 billion, were paid by the EU taxpayers. OLAF is an independent EU service, with the objective of detecting and undertaking measures aimed at preventing all types of fraud, corruption and other illegal activities, or to carry out fight against all forms of financial abuse and corruption. Since its establishment, OLAF received more than 7,000 individual complaints on misuse of funds, resulting in opening more than 3,000 cases, complaints, out of which around the third were officially closed with the so-called recommendations to remedy deficiencies ..
