Montenegro sends another 35 soldiers to ISAF Mission in Afghanistan
‘’After the restoration of independence, Montenegro has clearly committed itself to a collective security system as a framework for the accomplishment of its security and defense objectives. At the same time, we have recognized Euro-Atlantic integration as an opportunity to reinforce the economic development of our country’’, Prime Minister Igor luksic said at the solemn send off of the third contigent of 35 Montenegrin soldiers to ISAF Mission in Afghanistan.
The PM reminded the audience on this occasion of Montenegro’s recent achievements in this regard namely memberships in NATO Partnership for Peace and Action Plan for membership (MAP), expressing hope that these efforts will result in full accession to this 28- nation Alliance.
Sending soldiers to peacekeeping missions, according to him, represents a continuation of Montenegro’s bid to achieve its strategic goal of integration into Euro-Atlantic structures, but also to contribute to collective peace and stability.
PM Luksic also expressed content for the possibility to personally greet the soldiers and thank them for their readiness to meet their commitments professionally and represent their country, its people and Montenegrin Armed Forces with dignity, adding that the Government will regularly monitor the situation in Afghanistan and do its best to reduce their engagement risks to a minimum.
