When it comes to Montenegro, the fight against corruption and organised crime is not about fulfilling the EU agenda, it is a topic of critical importance for the country, quality of life of its citizens, as well as for freedom and democracy which are the preconditions for economic and social stability. It is not solely a responsibility of the police, prosecutor’s office and judiciary, but the entire society, Deputy Prime Minister Dusko Markovic highlighted addressing the Parliament on Thursday, March 11.

He invited on this occasion all Montenegrins to “understand it in the same way, to take it as a challenge”, reiterating the Government’s commitment to reaching full consensus on the matter of corruption and organised crime and he also reminded of the need for closer cooperation between relevant public authorities in order to maximise the effects of the fight against crime and corruption.

Furthermore DPM Markovic pointed up a necessity of creating a trustworthy attitude to state institutions and their capability of tackling these challenges. The state in turn has to do its best to provide these institutions with human resources, technical assistance and other prerequisites so they can fulfil their tasks in a professional, accountable and efficient manner. “For that purposes we need police officers, prosecutors and judges who will see their success in combating corruption and organised crime as a motive for their own promotion and better living standard”, the DPM remarked.

The DPM concluded by voicing his confidence that Montenegro will meet all the targets for getting the date for the launch of EU entry talks in October, asking for full cooperation of the Parliament and the entire society in achieving that goal.
