PM’s Questions: Montenegro to attract new foreign investment
Published on: Mar 16, 2011 • 6:34 PM Author: PR Bureau
During the Prime Minister’s Questions on Tuesday, Montenegrin MPs took the opportunity to raise a number of issues and PM Luksic explained various Government policies.
Most questions centred on Government policies aimed at improving the economy and the quality of life in Montenegro. PM Luksic said that there are various projects underway aimed at improving the transport infrastructure in Montenegro, making the most of the resources in the North and attracting fresh investment.
He emphasised that Montenegro has excellent potential of becoming an attractive investment destination in the region, underlining the stability of the country, the importance of the Euro for foreign investors, good neighbourly relations and steady progress towards the EU and NATO. He also pointed out that there are many green-field investments in Montenegro, but that even more should be invited.
Answering Nebojsa Medojevic’s (PzP) question about whether some institutions are hindering criminal proceedings against high officials, the PM said that in this area “all the institutions are doing their part of the job” and that “there are no political obstacles” to proceedings against high state officials.
PM Luksic also dismissed Medojevic’s insinuations regarding cigarette smuggling, adding that as Finance Minister he was personally in charge of an operation team that practically eradicated cigarette smuggling in Montenegro.
In replying to questions from Andrija Mandic (NOVA) regarding the Marty report and the Council of Europe (CoE) resolution regarding Kosovo, PM Luksic said that these cannot serve as a basis for revising the decision to recognise Kosovo, as they only deal with human rights protection, adding that the Montenegrin delegation to the CoE supported the resolution based on the Marty report.
He also underlined that Montenegro is fully dedicated to good neighbourly relations.
