The United Kingdom will be Montenegro’s partner on the road to European integration, by providing expert and financial support, Foreign Office Director for Western Balkans Daniel Daniel Fearn said during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Dusko Markovic earlier today.

The meeting discussed a draft project, prepared by British experts, aimed at strengthening Montenegro’s legislative framework for the fight against corruption in the public sector.

DPM Markovic acquainted his guest with the implementation of the Government’s Action Plan for meeting the recommendations from the European Commission’s Opinion, with particular reference to the fight against corruption and organized crime. It was noted that, apart from good legislation, Montenegro also needs to build strong institutions capable of successfully applying the law, which requires continued training for all public authorities.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined the importance of the civil society’s role in the process of legislative reform and announced that, by the end of April, the Ministry of Justice would offer a memorandum of cooperation to all interested members of the civil society, in an effort to make the government’s existing cooperation with the civil society more active and more efficient.
