“From what the Prime Minister has said Montenegro is determined to accept all the challenges arising from the seven key EC priorities and undertake comprehensive reform, including in particular change in the structure of public administration and judicial institutions,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel told the press after a meeting with Prime Minister Igor Luksic in Berlin on Thursday.
The Chancellor pledged German support for Montenegro’s EU and NATO accession process and remarked that the two countries have very good bilateral relations.
She noted that there is no enlargement fatigue within the EU, recalling that Montenegro has obtained EU candidate status and has been presented with a clear set of requirements for its accession to the Union.
According to Chancellor Merkel, Montenegro is a young country, but a quite stable one and a factor of stability in the region.
The Prime Minister said he acquainted Mrs. Merkel with everything Montenegro is doing to meet the seven key requirements for the opening of EU accession talks.
The two officials also discussed regional issues.
“We are keen to support any process that could enable our region to resolve all the outstanding issues and take the road of prosperity and EU accession,” said Luksic.
