PM Lukšić hails EC and Belgium's contribution to Montenegro's accession bid

Podgorica, Montenegro (18 April 2011) – Satisfying the European requirements is the top priority of both the Government and the entire Montenegrin society. This is notable in the consensus among various stakeholders on European integration, Prime Minister Igor Lukšić remarked at a meeting with Belgian Foreign Minister Steven Vanackere. He stressed the immense contribution of the European Commission in this regard.
PM Lukšić acquainted Minister Vanackere with the implementation of the Action Plan for meeting commitments arising from the European Commission’s Opinion, particularly with the work done in advancing media freedom, judicial independence and the rule of law.
He reiterated the importance of the enlargement process for the countries of the region as an incentive to their further endeavours in pursuing European agenda, highlighting the prominent role of Belgium in the process.
Minister Vanackere commended the Government's realistic and pragmatic approach in fulfilling its European perspective, adding it is essential not only to meet European criteria but to work for the benefit of the citizens and boost economic and democratic development.
The two officials also underlined the significance of upgrading economic cooperation between the two countries through signing bilateral agreements.
