EU officials commend Montenegro’s track record in meeting European objectives

Podgorica, Montenegro (17 May 2011) – Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković acquainted representatives of the European Parliament at their meeting earlier today with the reforms that Montenegro is carrying out in the fields of justice and fight against corruption and organised crime. He made a particular reference to the set of laws that will contribute to the creation of independent, efficient and accountable judiciary.

DPM Marković put special emphasis on judicial cooperation with neighbouring countries, underling the importance of cross-border cooperation when it comes to the fight against organised crime, as well to the process of reconciliation in the Western Balkan.

European Parliament members praised Montenegro’s efforts in pursuing EU agenda, voicing hope for soon commencement of Montenegro’s EU accession talks. 

DPM Marković also met today with Stefano Sannino, DG Enlargement official who hailed Montenegro’s pro-active approach in meeting the seven criteria from the EU Commission Opinion. He noted that Montenegro is on the right track to endorsing solutions based on the consensus of all stakeholders in Montenegro.
