Defence Minister Boro Vucinic participated at the 28th International Workshop on Global Security in Paris at the invitation of the Center for Strategic Research and the Ministry of Defence of France.

The topic of this year's Workshop on Global Security is Global Security - Challenges in the Coming Decades. Minister Vucinic was speaking at the panel on security situation in the Western Balkans, which also included a discussion of the participants on the current situation in North Africa and the Middle East. Besides Minister Vucinic, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia dr Ljubica Jelusic, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Croatia Davor Bozinovic and Minister of of Bosnia and Herzegovina Defence Selmo Cikotic also participated at this panel.

In his address to participants of the workshop, Minister Vucinic underlined the importance of regional cooperation in order to face the challenges and threats that one country alone can not cope with.

"When we talk about global security we have to emphasize that the dynamic changes in international relations require different approaches to solving problems in this area. First of all, developing cooperation between countries in all areas is essential for establishing peace and security globally. It is clear that the current national security concepts can achieve their full capacity only within the framework of broader security integrations. The region to which Montenegro belongs is a clear example of this need.

Montenegro as a small state is aware that it cannot independently develop all of the defense capabilities, and believes that Euro-Atlantic, European and regional integration are the best solution for ensuring stability in the region", Minister Vucinic said.

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Vucinic met with a number of participants, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Latvia Artis Pabriks whom he invited to visit Montenegro as Pabriks gladly accepted, then numerous Defence Ministers, Pieter de Creme of Belgium, Ana Angelov of Bulgaria, Aaviks Jak of Estonia.

The workshop involved a number of ministers, ambassadors and experts dealing with issues of global and regional security.
