Allies commended Montenegro's Progress Report
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defence of Montenegro, Mr. Milan Rocen and Mr. Boro Vucinic, visited NATO headquarters on 27 June and addressed the North Atlantic Council.
At the meetin, held in format NAC + 1 and chaired by NATO Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bisogniero, they discussed with NATO Allies the first progress report on Montenegro’s participation in the Membership Action Plan (MAP).
Allies encouraged Montenegro to continue efforts towards Euro-Atlantic integration and to address outstanding reforms in order to meet Alliance standards. Allies also commended Montenegro’s steadfast commitment to regional and international security and thanked Montenegro for the valuable contribution to NATO’s ISAF operation in Afghanistan.
The constructive role of Montenegro in the region, at the catalyst of stability, good neighborly relations and regional cooperation, was especially emphasized. In this light, Allies praised its contribution to global peace and stability by participating in the ISAF mission, with emphasis on initiatives in the Montenegrin presidency of the US-Adriatic Charter of sending a joint team of trainers from Charter member countries and Slovenia to Afghanistan.
