With the view to implementing the EC recommendation concerning the strengthening of the rule of law, as one of the key priorities of Montenegro’s EU perspective, the Government adopted on 30 June Bills amending the Law on Public Prosecution, the Law on Judicial Council and the Law on Courts.

The amendments are aimed at providing personal and institutional independence of public prosecution, de-politicised and merit-based selection of the Judicial Council’s members, as well as increased autonomy, efficiency and accountability of judges, at the same time strengthening their respect of the Code of Ethical Conduct and their security.

The Cabinet adopted the Fourth Monthly Report on the implementation of the Action Plan for meeting European Commission’s seven key priorities, highlighting that the tasks have been carried out according to the plan and established priorities.

The Cabinet also adopted the Bill on Protection of Competition which creates prerequisites for establishing a fair environment for all participants in the Montenegrin market and the possibility for Montenegro to join the EU’s single market and other international market trends.
