Podgorica, Montenegro (5 July 2011) -- Prime Minister Igor Lukšić stressed, during his talks with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis earlier today, the organisation’s significant role in implementing reforms and democratic transition in Montenegro, primarily regarding the rule of law, police reform, reinforcing judicial efficiency and fight against corruption.

The PM thanked Mr Ažubalis for OSCE’s assistance and expressed readiness to continue cooperation, having in mind that it corresponds with Montenegro’s foreign policy agenda, primarily regarding European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

"In that regard, it is crucial to continue cooperation in line with the needs and further progress of Montenegro in achieving these strategic objectives”, he added.

The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office thanked Prime Minister Lukšić for the cooperation and good relations with the Montenegrin Government, considering it a good example of how a country can use the full capacity and opportunities provided by organizations like the OSCE.

"Our experience shows that not all the countries managed to identify all the benefits of this kind of cooperation for implementing reforms. Montenegro, on the other hand, did and it can set an example to others," Mr Adžabalis underlined.

He also commended Montenegro’s efforts in complying with EU agenda, pointing out that Lithuania supports further EU and NATO enlargement and Montenegro’s integration into these structures.

"I am pleased to see the entire society involved in the process and the consensus on these issues, which is a signal that the Government has a good approach while communicating with all social stakeholders", the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Lithuanian Foreign Minister  concluded.
