Podgorica, Montenegro (5 September 2011) -- Prime Minister Igor Luksic and Slovenian President Danilo Türk met for talks on the political and economic developments and Montenegro’s EU bid.

President Türk welcomed Montenegro’s efforts and success in the European integration process, adding that the government’s and the society’s performance would be recognised and rewarded by the EU. “Slovenia sees Montenegro as the next country to join the European Union, now that Croatia has concluded the accession talks,” said he.

Prime Minister Igor Luksic thanked the Slovenian head of state for his country’s continued support to Montenegro’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

The Prime Minister introduced his guest to the positive economic trends in the country and his government’s measures aimed at promoting the national business environment and foreign investment climate.

Both sides welcomed the signing of an economic cooperation agreement between the two governments and discussed ways to forge closer economic ties, particularly in tourism, agriculture and transport.
