Montenegro continues efforts to resolve refugees and displaced persons issue

Podgorica, Montenegro (16 September 2011) – A group of over 30 displaced persons from the refugee camp Konik in Podgorica, Montenegro, have gone back to Kosovo in order to get all the necessary documentation required for obtaining the status of foreigners with permanent residence in Montenegro.

The trip back to Kosovo is organised as a part of the agreement between the Government of Montenegro and the international community.

Resolving the legal status of the refugee and displaced persons population sets the ground for the exercise of their rights to social insurance, health care, education and their overall integration into the Montenegrin society.

This kind of activity, which is to be continued, reflects the Government’s dedication to proper implementation of the Strategy for resolving the issue of refugees and internally displaced persons adopted in July 2011, which, at the same time, represents one of the commitments set out in the Action Plan for meeting EU accession requirements.
