Montenegro meets Action Plan commitments for launch of EU entry talks, begins second MAP cycle
Podgorica, Montenegro (29 September 2011) -- The Government adopted the Sixth monthly report on the implementation of the Action Plan for meeting EU requirements, which is, at the same time, the last report before the European Commission issues an opinion on the launch of Montenegro’s accession talks on 12 October 2011, Foreign Minister Milan Roćen told the press following the Cabinet meeting.
Montenegro has successfully met all the commitments laid down in the Action Plan, FM Roćen noted, stressing, in particular, the importance of adopting election legislation and drafting amendments to the Constitution with regards to judiciary.
Montenegro has also undertaken extensive efforts to meet European Commission’s requirements concerning corruption, organised crime, promotion of human rights and resolving the status of refugees and internally displaced persons, the Foreign Minister remarked.
The Cabinet adopted the Second Annual National Programme within the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) which is to be presented in Brussels in mid-October.
The Second Annual Programme’s activities and priorities are based on the recommendation outlined in the NATO’s report on the advancement of the First Annual National Programme’s implementation, representing continued activities in the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration agenda concerning economic, political, military, security and legal issues, Minister Roćen concluded.
