Ohrid, Macedonia (4 October 2011) -- On the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Forum, Minister of Justice Duško Marković and his Macedonian counterpart Blerim Bexheti signed today the Extradition Agreement between the two countries.

The treaty creates a legal basis for the extradition of own nationals who are suspects or defendants in cases of organised crime, corruption and money laundering.

“We have shown that our countries have the capacity to regulate relations in line with European standards, especially when it comes to the fight against organised crime and corruption as the biggest challenges in our region today,” DPM Marković pointed out.

He called Macedonian Justice Ministry for the negotiations on signing the Agreement on mutual enforcement of court decisions in criminal matters, as well as the Treaty on legal assistance in civil and criminal matters, in order to create a sound legal basis for mutual legal cooperation.
