Podgorica, Montenegro (7 October 2011) -- Montenegro is a stable and safe country and a good role model for other countries in the region, Deputy Assistant Secretary of US State Department Philip Reeker said at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Duško Marković, and congratulated the Montenegrin Government on its track record in attaining EU and NATO accession objectives.
DPM Marković thanked Mr Reeker for the US Embassy’s support for Montenegro’s integration agenda, reiterating that the two countries cherish a long-standing strategic partnership, which embraces not only political, but also financial, project and expert support.
The Deputy Prime Minister especially thanked the US Government for signing and implementing the US-Montenegro law enforcement agreement, as well as for the US Embassy Legal Office’s continued support to Montenegro’s Justice Ministry.
The two sides made special reference to Montenegro’s NATO accession endeavours and noted that it has made remarkable success in this regard.
Montenegro wishes to enter NATO not only because of the membership’s benefits, but also because of its strong determination to share responsibility for coping with the challenges of the modern world hand in hand with the most developed democracies, the two officials concluded.
