Cooperation and promotion of European standards keys to region’s prosperity

Podgorica, Montenegro (17 October 2011) -- Prime Minister Igor Lukšić met with Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Luka Bebić to discuss current political situation and the integration perspective of Montenegro and the region.

PM Lukšić stressed the need to foster common values in the region, pointing out that cooperation is a prerequisite for EU and NATO accession and safe and prosperous region as well.

"Without regional cooperation and true partnership, we can not count on the full development of the common European future", PM Lukšić remarked.

Croatian Parliament Speaker Luka Bebić expressed his satisfaction about Montenegro’s progress towards EU and NATO accession, expressing confidence that Montenegro-EU accession talks will not last long.

It is important for Croatia, Mr Bebić added, that other countries of the region follow the European standards as well.

"If our neighbors do not share European values, we are not completely satisfied either", he said.

The two officials also noted that differences contribute to strengthening democracy and the cultural heritage of the both nations, stressing that the two countries respect the rights of national minorities.
