German Foreign Minister congratulates Montenegro on its EU accession progress
Berlin, Germany (20 October 2011) -- During his working visit to Germany, Prime Minister Igor Lukšić met yesterday with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle who congratulated the Government and the whole Montenegrin society on obtaining the positive opinion from the European Commission for opening of accession negotiations.
"The Commissioner Stefan Fule’s report is encouraging and we are happy about Montenegro’s success. Germany will continue to provide full support to Montenegro in meeting European agenda", he added.
Prime Minister Lukšić expressed his satisfaction with the progress achieved in the process of European integration, also expressing the Government’s readiness to continue to implement the ongoing reforms in order to improve the standard of living of Montenegrin citizens.
"Along with fulfilling the obligations of the European agenda, and we are committed to pursue reforms aimed at democratisation and development of the Montenegrin society”, PM Lukšić remarked.
During his stay in Germany, PM Lukšić held a number of meetings with the representatives of the German Bundestag, expecting it to support the recommendation of the European Commission for opening of accession talks with Montenegro.
PM Lukšić also met with Christoph Heusgen, Foreign Policy Advisor to Chancellor Angela Merkel.
