Podgorica, Montenegro (21 October 2011) -- The Montenegrin Government sees the European Commission’s report on the county’s progress as an encouragement and a verification of the hard work in meeting the EU membership requirements, Prime Minister Igor Lukšić said at today’s meeting with the representatives of Dutch Parliament’s Committee for European Affairs.
“We are ready to continue the EU accession process aware of the demanding challenges of the European agenda,” the Prime Minister added.
Empowering the oversight role of the Parliament, building administrative capacities and boosting cooperation with NGOs, as well as advancing media freedom, human rights and care for vulnerable groups, will continue to be the key priorities of the Government, PM Lukšić reiterated.
Representatives of the Dutch Parliament praised the Montenegrin Government’s dedication and commitment to achieving EU standards and offered full support in this regard.
Regional cooperation in combating organised crime and other challenges is necessary to make the European future of the region certain, the both sides agreed.
“We believe in European future of the Western Balkan, but each country must work hard to achieve the standards the EU membership requests,” Raymond Knops, President of the Committee for European Affairs, concluded.
