PM Lukšić discusses electric power company EPCG with Italian A2A partners
Podgorica, Montenegro (16 November 2011) – Prime Minister Igor Lukšić met yesterday with Renato Ravanelli, Director General of the A2A, Italian partner in the electric power company Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), for talks on the current state of affairs at the EPCG and the problems it is facing.
Mr Lukšić and Mr Ravanelli discussed negative factors affecting the EPCG business, such as overdue payments, high energy tariffs and import costs upsurge and the ways to ensure the stability of the power distribution system in the country. PM Lukšić voiced the Government’s resolve to undertake measures aimed at tackling the hardships, especially those related to the overdue payments by the public sector at the state and local levels.
The existing model of power distribution to the aluminium smelter KAP has been identified as one of the key problems and as not sustainable, and it was noted that this issue must be resolved promptly between the EPCG and KAP in order to secure the stability of Montenegro’s economy.
The two sides agreed that the regulations in the area of power production and distribution must ensure medium term predictability, flexibility mechanisms in cases of market disruptions, and the sustainability and development of the power system of Montenegro. They concluded that this would create new job openings and attract investment.
