Podgorica, Montenegro (9 December 2011) -- Ukrainian signing of the Protocol on Montenegro’s accession to the WTO, which opens way for Montenegro joining the organisation, along with recent signing of Free Trade Agreement and today’s signing of treaties in the fields of culture, air traffic, tourism, defence and education, confirms the closeness of the two countries and a wide range of cooperation possibilities, Montenegrin and Ukrainian Prime Ministers, Igor Lukšić and Mikola Azarov, concluded at the joint press conference earlier today in Podgorica.

The two officials announced on this occasion the signing of additional agreements with the aim of upgrading economic cooperation, as well as the setting up of a joint commission on economic issues and a business forum, which is to be organised during the forthcoming PM Lukšić’s official visit to Kiev.

Referring to Montenegro’s efforts to ensure the stability of its energy system, PM Azarov voiced his country’s readiness to provide Montenegro with adequate equipment and installations in order to put hydro, thermo, wind and solar power plants into operation, thus preserving the country’s energy system and reducing the electricity costs.

Prime Minister Igor Lukšić noted that Montenegro’s EU accession experience can be of significant assistance to Ukraine as the Western Balkans integration to the EU continues through Montenegro - EU negotiations based on a new model that is probably to be applied to all future EU aspiring countries.
