Amnesty International experts welcome Montenegro's prison system reform
Podgorica, Montenegro (12 December 2011) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Duško Marković met with Amnesty International’s Balkans experts Sian Johns and Anita Brkanić for talks on human rights and freedoms, prison system and overall justice reform in Montenegro.
Amnesty International’s experts praised the activities aimed at the modernisation of the prison system, in particular the cooperation agreement which the Justice Ministry and Institute for Execution of Criminal Sanctions signed with NGOs allowing the authorised observers to monitor the respect of human rights in Montenegro’s prison facilities.
The meeting was also an opportunity for the Amnesty International’s delegation to be introduced with the new Law on protector of human rights and freedoms’ provisions that are fully harmonised with modern international standards in this area.
