Montenegro’s Ministry of Justice and UNDP office pledge to extend good cooperation in judiciary reform

Podgorica, Montenegro (8 February 2012) – The Ministry of Justice and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Podgorica pledged to continue the cooperation projects in the area of judiciary reform, Justice Minister Duško Marković and UNDP Resident Representative Rastislav Vrbensky agreed at their meeting earlier today. 

The emphasis of the continued cooperation will be on drafting the Judiciary Reform Strategy for 2013-17, enhancing the free legal aid system, enhancing the mediation system, and fight against organised crime and corruption.

Looking back at the hitherto cooperation with the UNDP, Minister Marković underlined that the results of the partnership have been of great benefit to Montenegro’s judiciary in the processes of reform, EU integration, and strengthening the rule of law, which he listed as main preconditions for building a democratic and European society.

Ambassador Vrbensky voiced that, as the reform processes continue, the UNDP’s stands ready to extend its cooperation with the Justice Ministry to all areas the UNDP’s assistance and joint efforts could be of use.
