Rule of law is precondition for NATO membership, Ambassadors to NATO emphasise

Podgorica, Montenegro (10 February 2012) -- Montenegro can expect good news from the upcoming NATO summit in Chicago due to, among other things, successful fulfilment of the national annual programme under the Membership Action Plan, in which a specific chapter is dedicated to judicial reform and fight against crime and corruption, Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković and Ambassadors of Hungary, Romania, Belgium, Portugal and Albania to NATO, Istvan Kovacs, Soros Dimitrou Dukaru, Rudolf Huygelen, Joao Mira Gomes and Artur Kuko, concluded at the meeting earler today.

DPM Marković stressed that in the coming period Montenegro will be focused on the implementation of normative framework and further strengthening of institutional framework for enforcing legislation.

He also emphasised Montenegro's dedication to regional cooperation which has been reflected in signing and implementing a set of agreements on legal assistance in civil and criminal matters with all countries of the region, stressing the significance of the extradition agreements with Serbia, Croatia and Macedonia. 

The Ambassadors praised Montenegro for its progress achieved in judiciary reform and fight against crime and corruption and announced good news from Chicago based on good track record in these areas.
