Podgorica, Montenegro (16 February 2012) – French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has decided to respond immediately to Montenegro’s request for assistance submitted to NATO member states on 12 February in the wake of severe weather the country has suffered from recently.
France has decided to approve immediately EUR 10 000 for assistance and evacuation of endangered population, primarily in the remote and mountainous areas in the north of the country.
The French Embassy will set promptly, in cooperation with Montenegrin Foreign and European Integration Ministry and Centre for Emergency Situations, the priorities that have to be addressed.
Greece and Slovenia have already sent helicopters and rescue teams that are taking part, together with Montenegrin helicopter units, in the distribution of emergency supplies and rescue operations.
