Montenegro initiates preparations for participation in CoE campaign “One in five”

Podgorica, Montenegro (2 March 2012) – The team for preparing Montenegro’s participation in the Council of Europe (CoE) project “One in five” held a meeting today in Podgorica, following the decision reached by the working meeting held by Prime Minister Igor Lukšić on 10 February. “One in five” campaign aims to reduce and stop the sexual violence against children.

CoE’s campaign will last until 2014, and the team meeting witnessed very strong commitment of the participants to the campaign goals. Montenegro is set to reach clear results and present them to the public by the end of 2012. The team decided to assign to all participants concrete tasks with precise deadlines to be undertaken as soon as possible. The aim is to raise awareness among children and adults and to prevent child abuse.

UNICEF and Council of Europe pledged extensive help for the project.

Due to the importance of the set task, the team is set up broadly so as to include relevant stakeholders at all levels. These include: MPs who are also members of Montenegro’s parliamentary delegation at the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE); representatives of the following ministries: for human and minority rights, health, information society, foreign affairs and European integration, justice, labour and social welfare, sustainable development and tourism, interior, education and sports; Prime Minister’s office; Union of Municipalities of Montenegro; High Public Prosecutor’s Office; office of the Ombudsman; Supreme Court; Police Authority; Public Relations Bureau; UNICEF. The team is open for cooperation with the NGO sector.
