HR Adviser Kojičić and CoE’s Gardetto: Legal and institutional anti-discrimination framework in Montenegro strengthened

Podgorica, Montenegro (8 March 2012) – Anti-discrimination framework in Montenegro has been strengthened in the past year both legally and institutionally, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Human Rights and Protection from Discrimination Jovan Kojičić and rapporteur to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Jean-Charles Gardetto concluded at a meeting on Wednesday.

Mr Gardetto enquired about the Government's anti-discrimination policy, with special emphasis on the protection of LGBT rights, and welcomed the appointment of an adviser for anti-discrimination policy at the Prime Minister’s Office. Mr Kojičić presented to Mr Gardetto the results achieved in this field in the past year.

The two officials commended the strengthening of the legal and institutional framework for the fight against discrimination and concluded that the Government is undertaking good activities towards promotion and protection of LGBT human rights.

PM’s Adviser Kojičić underlined the importance of cooperation with PACE and reiterated the Government’s readiness to implement the recommendations and good practices, especially in pursuing its international commitments.
