Meeting of Minister Pejanovic-Djurisic with Admiral Stavridis

Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) Admiral James Stavridis met with newly appointed Defence Minister  Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic. The meeting was attended by Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro Vice Admiral Dragan Samardzic and Deputy Minister for Defence Policy Ivan Masulovic as well as Deputy Minister for Material Resources Colonel Rifet Kosovac.

Admiral Stavridis praised the efforts of Montenegro towards Euro-Atlantic integration and expressed gratitude for the contribution of Montenegrin soldiers  to the ISAF mission.

Defence Minister Pejanovic-Djurisic emphasized very good cooperation between Montenegro and NATO, which was demonstrated through the help from NATO Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre – EADRCC, during floods in 2010 and snow fall in the current year.

Admiral Samardzic expressed  appreciation to  Admiral Stavridis for the assistance provided during  the storm, stressing also solidarity of the countries in the region. Admiral Samardzic said that the humanitarian operations are the best way to build confidence in the region. He also briefed participants on the military budget that provides participation in missions, modernization of the Armed Forces and the education of the personnel.

During the meeting, the discussion was on the establishment of Military Intelligence in the MoD, as well as the establishment of an integrated air and sea surveillance and control systems for which Montenegro has significant support from NATO and the United States. 

At the end of the meeting, Admiral Stavridis invited  Defence Minister  to return visit in the future.
