Podgorica, Montenegro (11 April 2012) - The Montenegro national team for participation in the Council of Europe (CoE) project “One in five” met in Podgorica earlier today, and adopted, as agreed at the previous meeting, the project activities for the period April-November 2012. “One in five” campaign aims to reduce and stop the sexual violence against children.
Some of the most important activities include education on the issue of child abuse through round tables, panel discussions, workshops, and lectures, competent bodies’ coordinated field activity, research, and media campaign on the issue. The Team will also make a website dedicated to Montenegro’s activities in the “One in Five” campaign and will aim to raise awareness with the assistance of electronic and printed media.
The CoE campaign was launched after a research has shown that every fifth child in Europe was exposed to some form of sexual violence and in 70-85% of cases the abuser was a person whom the child knew and trusted.
The National Team is set up broadly, due to the importance of the set task, so as to include relevant stakeholders at all levels: MPs, Government ministries and offices, judiciary and prosecutor’s office, and domestic and international partners. The CoE campaign will last until 2014, and the Team aims to present Montenegro’s achievements in November 2012.
