Podgorica, Montenegro (12 April 2012) – The recent Budva's conference on legal solutions in combating organised crime, sponsored by the Justice and Human Rights Ministry, under the auspices of US, Italian and Croatian embassies, is one of the most significant professional meetings on the subject in Montenegro, Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Duško Marković and US and Italian Ambassadors to Montenegro, Sue Key Brown and Sergio Barbanti, concluded at a meeting earlier today.

Today’s meeting was an opportunity for the conference organisers to exchange views on the event which resulted in concrete recommendations which will be verified at the next Cabinet meeting. In that regard, the officials exchanged ideas on the measures which should be undertaken with the aim of achieving even more concrete results in fighting against organised crime.

The meeting also concentrated on strenghtening capacities of the Special Investigative Team in terms of attending specialised training programmes and drafting clear guidelines for dealing with high profile investigations.

Minister Marković noted on that occasion that the Government has initiated constitutional amendments in the belief that that judiciary reform can not be completed without amending the Constitution. The consultations on the issue are to be continued, he said, expecting they will result in the consensus that will reflect political maturity of all stakeholders in the Parliament.

Ambassadors Brown and Barbanti reiterated that the USA and Italy remain Montenegro’s partners in its endeavours to reinforce results which will recommend it for the EU and NATO membership.
