Podgorica, Montenegro (18 April 2012) – Prime Minister Igor Lukšić continued consultations on constitutional amendments with Montenegro's opposition leaders as one of the preconditions for further Montenegro’s progress toward the EU membership.

In separate meetings with Andrija Mandić (NOVA), Nebojša Medojević (PzP) and Srđan Milić (SNP), the Prime Minister underlined the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue between all relevant stakeholders in order to reach as broad consensus as possible which is critical for attaining Montenegro's key foreign policy objectives.

The Government is determined, in consultations with all political stakeholders, while respecting the recommendations of the Venice Commission, to find adequate solutions to the issue of constitutional position of the judiciary and other standing issues aimed at making decisions which will benefit Montenegro and its citizens, PM Lukšić emphasised.

The opposition leaders agreed that it is necessary to continue dialogue on constitutional amendments, but also reminded PM Lukšić of the previously expressed views on issues related to identity and minorities' status in Montenegro.

PM Lukšić launched consultation on constitutional amendments with the opposition on 22 February 2012.
