Round table within CoE's “One in Five” campaign on medical and psychological treatment of sexually abused children

Podgorica, Montenegro (19 April 2012) -- The round table on children’s health entitled “Recognising children victims of sexual violence and their medical and psychological treatment“ was held within the Council of Europe “One in Five” campaign in Podgorica on 19 April 2012.

Chairperson of the Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to the CoE's Parliamentary Assembly Valentina Radulović-Šćepanović presented on that occasion “One in Five” campaign, its importance for the Council of Europe member states, as well as the activities planned within the campaign.

The representatives of the Health and Labour ministries talken on specific aspects of the topic related to work with victims and their families, legislation, as well as special forms of sexual violence – child pornography and sex trafficking, methods for recognising a sexually abused child and types of sexual abuse and treatments.

After addresses of the round table participants, room was left for discussion, on which occasion the medical experts from the Clinical Centre and Institute of Public Health, and representatives of the NGO sector gave their opinion on the topic and posed questions to the round table participants.

The round table concluded that all the stakeholders participating in the campaign have to consider the drafting of a Protocol on all institutions' actions in cases of sexual violence over children, as well as the possibility to provide health care to children victims of sexual violence and the need for continuous education of the healthcare workers in this field.
