Montenegro continues activities within CoE's “One in Five” campaign against sexual abuse of children

Podgorica, Montenegro (27 April 2012) -- The round table titled “Existing legislation and practical experience regarding protection of children and minors victims of sexual violence” was held in Cetinje on Thursday. The event was sponsored by the Supreme Court and the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office, and co-sponsored by the Police Authority and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.

The round table was a part of the Council of Europe “One in Five” campaign focusing on prevention and stopping of sexual abuse of children, which has also been implemented in Montenegro.

The event was attended by the representatives of  the Supreme Court, Supreme State Prosecutor's Office, High Court, Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Ombudsman's Office and representatives of the Bar Association.

Though being the youngest member state, Montenegro is very responsible and committed to meeting all the obligations assumed by the Council of Europe’s membership. It contributes to the promotion of the priorities, projects and goals of the Council of Europe, thus enhancing the respect for human rights and freedoms in the member countries.

In their welcome addresses, President of the Supreme Court, Supreme State Prosecutor and National Coordinator for the implementation of the campaign emphasised the need for more efficient implementation of the judiciary reforms, especially the newly adopted legislation in line with the international standards.

The round table also presented experiences and expertise related to the sexual exploitation of children and minors which had been obtained through the practice.

All addresses of the participants will be published in the form of a bulletin and will be presented on the web-site of the campaign.
