Montenegro interested in boosting cooopreration with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republic of Srpska
Podgorica, Monrenegro (25 May 2012) -- The relations between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina can serve as an excellent example of good neighbourly relations and successful cooperation in the region, Prime Minister Igor Lukšić and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zlatko Lagumdžija agreed at the meeting in Podgorica earlier today.
Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina have an open space for cooperation in the area of economy, which is to be additionally fueled by boosting transport ties, the two officials noted. In that context, they highlighted the mutual interest in providing a more active support to the construction of Nikšić – Čapljina railway and to the reconstruction of Plužine - Šćepan Polje road.
The meeting also addressed energy cooperation possibilities, as well as the need to harmonise, on the expert level, the border issue between the two countries.
With regard to the common strategic foreign policy goal, PM Lukšić said that he expected Bosnia and Herzegovina to apply soon for the EU membership, thus enabling the whole region to be based on European values.
Prime Minister Igor Lukšić also met with his counterpart from Republic of Srpska Aleksandar Džomić to discuss deepening economic cooperation.
Montenegro is interested in boosting cooperation with Republic of Srpska in the field of transport, PM Lukšić remarked, referring to the possibility of establishing an airline between Banja Luka and Tivat, as well as to defining a unique regional approach when it comes to the construction of Adriatic - Jonic highway and further reconstruction of Plužine - Foča road.
The two officials also discussed the opportunities for exploring energy resources and linking the two countries'' mining and aluminium production capacities.
