Podgorica, Montenegro (7 June 2012) – Prime Minister Igor Lukšić met with Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák in Podgorica earlier today.

He thanked DPM Lajčák for Slovakia's continued support and commitment to the Western Balkan countries' integration efforts.

“The European Commission has recognised Montenegro's track record in the process of accession. The support of individual countries, as Slovakia's, is also very significant. The opening of negotiation talks with Montenegro would send a positive signal to the entire region,“ he said.

As a friendly country, Slovakia is interested in Montenegro's further success on its path towards EU and NATO membership, and it will continue to provide assistance to the country, DPM Lajčák said.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister pointed out that both the EU and future member states will benefit the integration process and he encouraged Montenegro to carry on implementing reforms toward the full membership.

“There is no doubt that your country is fully dedicated to the European agenda not just verbally but substantially. When the accession talks start, Slovakia's experiences that we offer to you could be valuable,” Mr  Lajčák concluded.
