Podgorica, Montenegro (18 June 2012) – Prime Minister Igor Lukšić and Finance Minister Milorad Katnić met with the delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) Board of Directors on Sunday.

PM Lukšić briefed the EBRD representatives on Montenegro's track record related to the economy recovery, stabilisation of public funds, implementation of structural reforms and plans for more balanced development of the state.

He expressed his confidence that in the previous period Montenegro has taken responsible, but tough decisions, with the view of renewing economic growth, economy diversification and attracting foreign investments.

“We have adopted a large number of laws and measures, and, on the other hand, we have not resorted to increasing direct taxes and VAT, thus preserving the competitiveness of our economy,” he explained.

“In parallel, we have been committed to pursuing the EU and NATO agenda. We are encouraged by the messages from Chicago's NATO Summit, and I believe that our progress in all European Commission’s criteria recommends us for the opening of the accession negotiation,” Prime Minister Lukšić remarked.

The EBRD representatives thanked the Prime Minister for the successful cooperation, emphasising that EBRD remains Montenegro’s a reliable partner and investor.

The meeting discussed the continuation of mutual cooperation and partnership projects, as well as the prospects for boosting cooperation, in particular in energy, agriculture, tourism and industry.

PM Lukšić and Finance Minister Katnić thanked the EBRD representatives for the cooperation and assistance that EBRD has provided so far in the fields of rehabilitation of Montenegro’s railway infrastructure, modernisation of the airports, water supply and wastewater treatment.
