Podgorica, Montenegro (22 June 2012) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Roćen met with his Czech counterpart Karl Schwarzenberg in Podgorica earlier today.

FM Roćen thanked the Czech Government and the people for providing significant development assistance when it comes to the issue of more balanced regional development of Montenegro.

There are numerous possibilities for upgrading mutual cooperation, he added, especially in the fields of energy, infrastructure, environmental protection and development of medium and small enterprises.

Minister Roćen welcomed the entry into force of the agreement on economic cooperation and the work of the Montenegrin - Czech business forum and the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation.

He specially thanked the Czech Republic for its open support to the EU enlargement policy and to Montenegro and the region of the Western Balkan’s integration efforts.

Czech Foreign Minister Schwarzenberg pointed out the necessity to maintain the enthusiasm for further EU enlargement despite of the economic crisis that the EU is dealing with.

“I am very confident that the result will be positive and that Montenegro can really start its way to the European Union,” he underlined.

Minister Schwarzenberg also noted that his country, together with its NATO partners, makes significant efforts to help the four NATO candidate countries join the organisation as soon as possible.

The two heads of diplomacy also signed today the agreement on cooperation in the area of combating crime between the two countries.
