Podgorica, Montenegro (27 June 2012) – Prime Minister Igor Lukšić met with Co-Chairmen of the Igman Initiative Branko Lukovac, Aleksandar Popov, Vehid Šehić and the organisation's experts Branislav Radulović and Tanja Bakalbašić.

The meeting discussed the regional organisation’s project, supported by the EU, which aims to resolve the outstanding issues of the citizens of the former Yugoslavia’s countries in order to enable the equal status of the citizens in this region by implementing European regulations and conventions.

The Igman Initiative’s representatives welcomed the decision to open accession negotiation with the EU, pointing out that the integration of the region into the European structures and the adoption of European standards are the Initiatives’s mission as well.

PM Lukšić welcomed the idea and the outcomes of the Initiative, which, through bringing together the intellectual potential of the region, has confirmed the validity of implementing the projects which encourage respect for human rights and freedoms, legal security and improvement of quality of life in the region.

The meeting agreed that the cooperation between the Government and the Igman Initiative should be continued through monitoring and implementing objectives from the White Book referring to the individual settlement of the citizens’ status in the domain of exercising fundamental rights and freedoms.
