Podgorica, Montenegro (17 June 2012) – During his official visit to Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Igor Lukšić met with First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov in Baku earlier today.

The meeting agreed that two countries have established excellent bilateral relations which need to be further impoved especially in the area of economy.

Montenegro is a country of potentials that has preserved its economy competitiveness in times of crises, DPM Eyyubov noted. He added that Azerbaijan's Government supports the companies interested in investing in Montenegro, calling for more intensified economy cooperation especially in transport, trade and tourism.

Prime Minister Lukšić pointed out that the opening of accession talks is an additional incentive for foreign investors to invest in Montenegro.

“This was a big decision for Montenegro. We have been pursuing European agenda responsibly, but also a whole range of measures which contributed to the retention of competitive tax rates. At the same time”, the PM continued, “we have been investing efforts to cut red tape, implement structural reforms and build a state known for a stimulative business environment. I belive that after SOCAR other Azerbaijan's companies will be interested in investing in Montenegro.'

With the aim of further boosting collaboration, the two officials emphasised the need of setting up an interstate commission for economic cooperation which is to be headed by the two economy ministers. The Commission will serve as a basis for organising business forms which will be attended by the business people from the two countries.
