UN Secretary General: Montenegro on course to achieve all objectives set out in UN Millennium Declaration
Podgorica, Montenegro (23 July 2012) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nebojša Kaluđerović met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who is paying his first official visit to Montenegro, on Sunday.
The UN Secretary General congratulated Montenegro on the success that it has achieved since restoring independence. Emphasising the fact that the UN highly appreciates Montenegro’s commitment to the principles of multilateralism, he voiced satisfaction that Montenegro will be among the countries on course to achieve all the objectives set out by the UN Millennium Development Goals.
The Secretary General in particular praised the active support that Montenegro provided in realising the idea of constructing the first green building in the UN system of organisations. Pointing out that “Delivering as One” is also the motto of the world organisation, Mr Ban Ki moon welcomed Montenegro’s participation in the integrated programme of cooperation with the UN. He expressed belief that Montenegro will continue to support the UN operative team which will try to harmonise its priorities, through support programmes, with the priorities of the Montenegrin Government.
Minister Kaluđerović voiced content with the UN Secretary General’s visit which is of historical importance for all the countries of the region. He thanked Mr Ki-moon on the support that the UN organisations have been providing to Montenegro’s reform processes. He stressed that the programme “Delivering as One” corresponds with Montenegro’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, and that Montenegro will continue to be a reliable partner in that regard.
