PM Lukšić: Montenegro-UNODC cooperation to reinforce accession negotiations with EU

Podgorica, Montenegro (5 September 2012) – Through regional initiatives, Montenegro has been pursuing reform programmes with the view of strengthening the rule of law and fight against corruption and organised crime, and the United Nations Office for Drug and Crime's (UNODC) assistance in that regard is more that welcomed, Prime Minister Igor Lukšić told UNDOC's Executive Director Yury Fedotov earlier today.

“ I believe that the intensive Montenegro-UNODC cooperation will reinforce the accession negotiations with the EU, which have been opened with the chapters 23 and 24 related to the reform of legal framework and fight against organised crime, smuggling, drug trafficking and terrorism,” he underlined.

The high UN official thanked on that occasion the Montenegrin Government for its support in implementing the UN programmes in Montenegro.

The two officials agreed that the cooperation between Montenegro and UNODC will be further encouraged through the integrated programme titled” Delivering as One”, which Montenegro joined voluntarily through “Democratic Governance”, as one of the three pillars that make up the programme of the UN reform.
